РЕФЕРАТ (Abstract)

The present disclosure is generally directed to efficiently cooling converter and inverter components of a drive system. Present techniques relate to a motor drive duct system that facilitates efficient cooling and access to motor drive components. The motor drive duct system includes duct channel paths that are parallel and adjacent to one another. The duct system includes a converter section that houses a converter heat sink, an inverter section that houses an inverter heat sink, an exhaust section, and an air inlet section. The converter section and the inverter section are configured to be attached and detached from each other at end sections that are angled to receive one another. Further, the inverter section, converter section, and air inlet section are configured to roll into and out of a cabinet, which facilitates access to field wiring.

The invention claimed is:

1. A motor drive system, comprising: a first motor drive duct comprising a first duct channel extending from a first end to a second end, and a second duct channel extending from the first end to the second end, wherein the second duct channel is adjacent to and parallel with the first duct channel, and wherein the first and second duct channels share common front and back walls and an interior partition; wherein the first end is oriented at a first oblique angle with respect to the front wall and a second oblique angle with respect to the back wall, and wherein the first end is configured to attach to a second, mating motor drive duct such that the first and second duct channels align with third and fourth duct channels of the second motor drive duct, respectively.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the first and second oblique angles are supplementary angles.

3. The system of claim 1, comprising means for attaching the first motor drive duct to the second motor drive duct.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the means for attaching comprises a key configured to interface with a slot on the second motor drive duct.

5. The system of claim 3, wherein the means for attaching comprises a set of fasteners configured to draw the first motor drive duct into sealed engagement with the second motor drive duct.

6. The system of claim 1, comprising a lifting bar attached to the front wall near the second end.

7. The system of claim 2, wherein the second end is configured to attach to a third motor drive duct such that the first and second duct channels align with fifth and sixth duct channels of the third motor drive duct, respectively.

8. The system of claim 7, comprising means for attaching the first motor drive duct to the third motor drive duct.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the second end is attached to an inlet air duct comprising a blower for blowing air through the first and second duct channels.

10. The system of claim 1, comprising a gasket-type seal attached to the first end.

11. A motor drive system, comprising: a converter duct comprising a first duct channel and a second duct channel adjacent to and parallel with the first duct channel; and an inverter duct comprising a third duct channel and a fourth duct channel adjacent to and parallel with the third duct channel; wherein an upstream end of the converter duct is configured to mate with a downstream end of the inverter duct such that the first duct channel aligns with the third duct channel, and the second duct channel aligns with the fourth duct channel; and wherein the upstream end of the converter duct and the downstream end of the inverter duct are oriented at oblique angles with respect to front and back walls of the converter duct and the inverter duct to sealingly mate the aligned duct channels.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the upstream end of the converter duct and the downstream end of the inverter duct are oriented at supplementary angles with respect to the front and back walls.

13. The system of claim 11, wherein one of the converter duct and the inverter duct comprises a key, and the other of the converter duct and the inverter duct comprises a slot configured to receive the key, and wherein at least one of the ducts is configured to receive fasteners configured to draw the ducts into a sealed mating relationship with one another.

14. The system of claim 11, comprising a converter secured to the converter duct and attached to a converter heat sink disposed in the first channel; and an inverter secured to the inverter duct and attached to an inverter heat sink disposed in the fourth duct channel; wherein the second duct channel channels cooling air downstream of the inverter heat sink and the third duct channel channels cooling air upstream of the converter heat sink.

15. The system of claim 11, comprising an inlet air duct attached to an upstream end of the inverter duct, wherein the inlet air duct comprises a blower for blowing air through the first, second, third, and fourth duct channels.

16. The system of claim 11, comprising a seal between the upstream end of the converter duct and the downstream end of the inverter duct.

17. A motor drive system, comprising: first and second motor drive ducts having parallel duct channels, wherein the first and second motor drive ducts are attached via ends forming oblique angles with front and back walls of the first and second motor drive ducts; wherein the first and second motor drive ducts are attached via a key of the first motor drive duct received by a slot in a bracket of the second motor drive duct, and a set of fasteners that draw the ducts into sealing engagement with one another.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein each of the motor drive ducts are structural members capable of supporting respective converter and inverter components when the respective duct is lifted or moved.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the second motor drive duct is unmatable from the first motor drive duct for removal of the second motor drive duct and the supported inverter components from an enclosure while the first motor drive duct and the supported converter components remain in the enclosure.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the second motor drive duct is coupled to an inlet air duct, and wherein at least one blower is disposed adjacent to or in the inlet air duct to force cooling air through the first and second motor drive ducts.
